Basics Training Part 2

In the second part of the basics training series I’ve done a side by side comparison of MemoryMixer and MyMemories Suite features.  You will find the complete article here.  I’ve also told you my favorite features of each program.  Which features I love and the ones I’m not so fond of.

Bad News/Good News

Today, as I was cleaning off my desk, I found a note I had written to myself last year.  At the time I was feeling very discouraged.  I had been going through some things but rather than looking only at the bad news I wanted to look for the good news hidden from my immediate view.  So here are some of the things I had written down:

  • We’ve had to make some drastic cuts  in our business  BUT we’re still in business.
  • I have some health problems BUT it’s not terminal.
  • Our new TV went out BUT it was under warranty.
  • The roof has a couple of leaks BUT we have a home and a roof over our heads.
  • Our yard is knee high BUT we’ve had some  much needed rain.
  • I get sad sometimes because  my hubby has to travel a lot BUT I’m thankful he is able.

I don’t believe in luck but there was a song on a TV show called Hee Haw that is just stuck in my head.  Part of the song says, “if it weren’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all.  Gloom, despair, and agony on me!”   That’s how I get to feeling sometimes and I actually sing those lines to myself (weird I know).  If you’re like me and you get a little down in the dumps sometimes, write down the things that have you discouraged and then think about something good that also applies and write that down.  Then think about the good things.  It will lift your spirit.  Be thankful because it could be worse!

Have the Courage to Cluster

Scrappers should not fear embellies and clusters.  Done right they will take your layouts to the next level.  But there is a right way and a wrong way.  One little flower on a page just gets lost and personally I think bigger is better.  Check out this article for ideas on adding embellishments and clustering on your layouts for a whole new look.  Now even if I don’t change your mind about adding more embellishments to your layouts, it’s good to step out of your comfort zone occasionally and see what you can do.  As for me, I do have a few, a very few, layouts that are fairly minimal so I have stepped out of my zone too!

Ice Cream   Ice Cream Makes Me Silly

I think the layout on the right does a better job expressing the fun and silliness shown in the photos.  Do you agree?

Basics Training Series

I’ve started a series of “basics” training articles comparing MyMemories Suite and MemoryMixer.  In the first article, posted today, we’ll compare prices, discounts available, system requirements, and briefly touch on the features of each program.  Many people have had questions regarding the differences and want to know which to buy.  I will dig deeper as the weeks go by and hopefully answer any questions you may have.  If you have a question you’d like answered, please comment on this post and I’ll do my best to be sure to cover it.  I hope you enjoy this series and covet any feedback or suggestions.  Next week we’ll look at the features of each program in more depth.  Check back often or follow my blog to keep up to date.  You’ll find the first article under the Basics Training tab or click here.

Eeek! Snake!

My Fridays aren’t usually so exciting!  I had to go into town, about 30 miles round trip, to go to the bank.  I decided to take my sports car because I hadn’t driven it in about three weeks.  I had decided to drive it to church Sunday so I thought I’d top off the tank.  I pulled up to the pump then turned around to shut the door.  Something caught my eye which, to my horror, turned out to be a snake coiled up in the door frame of my car!

I heard myself saying Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God!  A lady two pumps over asked if I was okay to which I replied, No! There’s a snake in my car, Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God! This apparently woke the snake and he proceeded to slither INTO my car, up the floor mat and behind the dash board.

A man pulled up on the other side of the second pump down.  Thankfully, he used to be a biology teacher and LIKED snakes.  From my description he said it sounded like a Texas Rat snake.  He got his flashlight and tried to locate the snake but couldn’t see it.  He assured me it was more scared than me but I assured him that wasn’t possible.  He told me I’d be safe to drive home.  He was “sure” the snake wouldn’t come out BUT if it did, it’s not poisonous.

Everyone went on their way except me.  I couldn’t figure out what to do.  I knew I couldn’t drive the car home.  My husband was out of town so I couldn’t call him.  I could leave it there and call a cab or maybe have it towed home.  While I was trying to think a truck pulled up beside me and the former biology teacher offered to let me drive his truck home and he’d follow in my car.  No, I didn’t know this man but the lady from the second pump down knew him.  She taught special ed and would take groups of children to a facility that he ran.  I jumped at the offer!

Here is a layout I made.  The snake in the layout is not the snake from my car.  The one in my car was much smaller and it may still be in my car for all I know!  But when this was going on I didn’t have time or even think about getting that rascals picture!

Thank God for sending that man to rescue me.  Yes, God still answers prayer!

Snake!

It’s a Boy!

We just got the news.  We’re expecting a boy.  Yippee!

It's A Boy!

Touched by a Dove called Noah

Dove called Noah

This one makes you wonder who are the smart ones.

How we treat the weakest among us is how we will be judged…..

Noah1These little bunnies, about 6 days old, were attacked by a dog and orphaned.

Two out of the litter of five did not survive, and these three were not doing very well.

Noah2Noah is a non-releasable, one-legged homing pigeon/rock dove that is in the rehab center.
Noah kept going over to the bunny cage and looking in — even sleeping in front of the door to the cage.

Noah 3Then, suddenly, there were only two bunnies in the cage.

But when Noah moved a bit from the front of the cage to everyone’s surprise… There was the tiny bunny… Under Noah’s wing… Sound asleep! That little bunny rabbit had crawled through the cage, preferring a featherbed, no doubt to snuggling up with its litter mates!

Noah4Now, they are all together and the bunnies are doing GREAT. When the bunnies scoot underneath Noah’s feathers, he carefully extends his wings out to surround them and then they snuggle. When one of them moves and they start sticking out here and there, he gently pushes them back under him with his beak! It is beautiful and amazing to see.
This is what God does with us when we need the warmth and love He offers. He gathers us under His loving wings to a warm cradle of protection. All we need do in return is give Him the thanks and praise for being with us.

==================================
Update on Noah the pigeon:
We are Bob and Georganne Lenham of Wild Rose Rescue Ranch in Texas , home of Noah the Pigeon.
After finding many posts online featuring Noah and the bunnies and reading about the many lives he has touched (his story has been forwarded around the world) we thought we’d post a follow-up and a few new photos.
We knew there was something special about Noah the moment we saw him.
Although the bunnies seem to be his favorite, Noah helps out with many rescue babies here at the Wild Rose Rescue Ranch.
Noah’s first litter of bunnies, almost raised and ready for release.

Noah5Now, Noah helps out with many rescue babies here at the ranch…
How wonderful it is to have a full-time soft-feathered nurturer here at the rescue ranch! He cuddles with all the babies as they snuggle under his warm feathers…and he “coos” as if singing them to sleep with a lullaby.
Noah is truly, truly a God-send.

He will cover you with His feathers
And under His wings you will find refuge.

My DigiDesignResort Nightmare

The saga continues!  I recently wrote an article about “How to Fail in Business!” on the DigiScrappingDivas website here.  In that article, I mentioned a company I was having difficulty with but didn’t mention their name.  I had ordered a DVD on May 3rd but they sent the wrong one.  I sent her an email with a screen shot of the table of contents to show her which disc I received and also to show her the poor quality.  As you can see, on the right hand side of the table of contents the titles are blacked out.  The videos were poor quality as well.

Poor Quality Table of Contents

After a few days, Monja agreed they had made a mistake and they’d mail me the correct DVD.  She said to keep the first DVD to make amends. I didn’t want or need it because it was beginner scrapbook lessons using Photoshop.  I’m not a beginner and don’t use Photoshop!  When the mail was delivered on May 24th I was excited to see the replacement disc had arrived.  Imagine my disappointment when I inserted the DVD and found they had sent the wrong DVD again.  I guess they’re consistent,  they sent the SAME “wrong” DVD – twice!  I emailed them again and filed a dispute with PayPal.

On May 29th I was notified that DigiDesignResort declined my $49.95 refund unless and until I returned both DVD’s.   I reluctantly agreed and told her when she gets them back she should put them in her computer and check the quality.  The first DVD table of contents was flawed & the videos were poor quality plus on the second DVD, the table of contents page was blank.   She replied, Ops – you shouldn’t write something like that where you cannot delete it anymore. You know that it is criminal to say something like that? You should never damage anyone’s reputation.  Strange though that you haven’t said anything about that – you actually said that they both contain the wrong data…  She also mentioned here she could have sent me download links instead!  I told her just because the table of contents page is blank doesn’t mean I can’t see the exact same files are on the disc, duh!  I also advised her I wasn’t the one damaging her reputation and it’s not illegal to tell others the truth about my experience dealing with Digidesignresort.

The return address she provided was incomplete but I guess it was a good thing, the postal clerk estimated the postage at $25.00!  I sent her another message trying to reason with her.  I said, “You hadn’t mentioned before that it could be downloaded. I’d be willing to download it if I can only get the correct product. The post office estimated the cost to return the DVD’s at $25 which is entirely unreasonable for me to have to pay since I have done nothing wrong. Surely you agree I have not caused any of the problem and that it is reasonable to expect to receive the product I ordered. Forgive me but I just don’t understand why it’s a problem.”  I also told her it’s illegal to have the receiver pay return shipping for an unsolicited product.  She told me it may be illegal in the U.S. but not in Germany!  We were getting nowhere fast.

A friend suggested I post a comment on her Facebook page, then maybe she’d feel compelled to make things right.  She deleted my post promptly and banned me from her Facebook page!  Then I got the following message from her, “I won’t discuss that  further because it is not the law in your country which applies but in mine (Germany). So you might want to investigate that.  As I said, it’s not necessary.   I’m happy to refund the money when you send the DVDs back – which is actually fair. You won’t ever receive money back if you don’t send the goods back you received.   I’m happy to provide you with the download links though.   No need to post any bad messages on Facebook, etc. That is not professional but ILLEGAL.”

REALLY?  So you know something about being professional?  You think it’s fair to ask me to spend $25+ to return two DVD’s that I didn’t order & that cost you 50 cents or less!  Then this “professional” business woman had the nerve to call me a liar!  This is the next email she sent,I will ignore that you posted a message on Facebook, really it makes me believe you definitely DON’T want to solve the issue but spread bad words. Anyway, as soon as you close the Paypal issue I’m happy to send you the links to download the DVD. Beside that, it is not $25 to send the DVDs back.  Imagine this: You buy something on Amazon you are not happy with and you claim your money back without sending the goods back? That will never happen nor does it with the DVDs.  So wether you send them back and I’m happy to refund the money or you close the issue and I’m happy to provide you with the download links as soon as the Email comes through.”

This woman is clueless!  These messages went back and forth for a week, some emails and some on PayPal and one of Facebook.  I think the Facebook message had the most effect since she finally agreed to give me the links.  I did send her another email and attached screen shots of her website showing what I ordered and what I got in hopes she’d send me the CORRECT links plus the postal website that shows the actual postage would be $27.85!  I refer to them as Exhibit 1 and Exhibit 2.  In reference to her Amazon comment I explained it really wasn’t the same thing.  I didn’t receive something I was not happy with; I received something I didn’t order, the wrong product.  If Amazon sends the wrong product they take care of any return shipping.

Exhibit 1 Exhibit 2

Plus you’ll notice in her message above, she told me she’d send the links after I closed my dispute.  Based on my experience, I first told her I was unsure of her intent in wanting me to close the dispute first.  I started to do it but PayPal warns you NOT to close the dispute until everything is settled because it can’t be reopened or escalated to a claim once it’s closed.  So I sent her another message telling her I’d have to get the product before I could close the dispute.  She agreed to do it.  So, after a month, I finally got the product!

Another funny thing, that little round, gold emblem on each product in Exhibit 1 says “Quality Checked”.  After the experience I have had I don’t believe they check anything.   After I downloaded the product I checked to be sure everything was in order before closing the dispute.  I found 3 papers missing.  I emailed her and told her I had closed the dispute and that papers 40, 44 & 46 were blank.  I told her she could email me the papers if she chose.  She did email them but apparently, once again, didn’t check them first.  The attachments were blank as well.

This is the story of  my first and only order with digidesignresort.com.  I have purchased a lot of digital scrapbooking products but this is the first time I’ve been treated like a thief and a liar.   I ordered a product from them, paid $49.95 and then they treat me like it’s my fault they sent the wrong thing twice.  Any time I have ever had a problem with a download from any store or designer they have been apologetic and quick to correct the situation.  I will never buy another product from digidesignresort.com and I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone else.   I have unsubscribed from their emails so I will never be tempted.  They send a lot of high pressure, times running out, get it before the price goes up type emails.  As a matter of fact, that is why I bought this DVD. When I got the Exhibit 1 screen shots two days ago I noticed the price is still $49.95.  Lies, Imagine that!  And personally I think the product is still overpriced.

So buyer beware.  In my humble opinion digidesignresort sucks.  My review would give them five thumbs down.
